Greetings From Ghettoville, Pennsylvania

One of my most fervent commenters, "anonymous," pointed out that it is hypocritical of me to express concern about what the children might read on the Internet, while simultaneously writing things that might be upsetting to them to read. In this case it would be nice if you could blame the messenger, but you can't because the kids apparently witness this mentality all the time.

Yup, Ghettoville is the name Kate calls this little Pennsylvania town that originally welcomed her with open arms. As a neighbor told my friend, “They always say they live in Wernersville, but they never even drive through town. Kate never comes near us. She always goes the other way, down State Hill Road. That’s more high society, I guess. She calls Wernersville ‘Ghettoville.’ She thinks she’s better than the rest of us.”

If you've read my blog long enough you know that our quiet little town of Wernersville is no Ghettoville. Werny is about four blocks long and our main street, Penn Avenue (or Route 422W,) is lined with old row homes, with a smattering of locally owned businesses mixed in for good measure. We have a couple of pizza shops, one gas station/convenience store, a small bakery, an ice cream shop, a bike shop, and a really great gift shop. The post office, police station and public library are set back about a block off Penn Avenue. Our population is under 2,500. It's not a ritzy place but there are lots of nice people here, like the neighbors who took freshly baked goods to Casa Gosselin when they first moved in, and were screamed at by Kate to get off her property and not tell anyone where she lived, or she would sue them.

The word "Ghettoville" strikes me as not only racist but elitist. Elitist, just because Werny isn't all matchy-matchy and perfect, like a brand new Barbie doll with new fake blonde hair and fake white teeth.
It struck me as rather odd that a Caucasian woman who was married and had children with someone who is half Korean would make a racist comment, but then I read further and found this bon mot: A source revealed that Jon hired the main nanny, but Kate also likes her a lot because “she’s Asian and she works 24/7 and she knows how to do hair and nails. Kate loves having Asians working for her. That’s why she frequents Planet Nails. It’s owned by Asians and she thinks they don’t get involved in other people’s business and they won’t gossip to reporters about her.”

Just love those Christian family values.

Well, gotta go y'all. Gonna go hang with my homies now. Down in the 'hood.

WG,
From one mother to another..seriously do you really feel it is important for people to know every little dirty detail. The children have or will someday soon read these hurtful things. Thank you for not posting the gossip you have heard about their dad, maybe you could do the same for their mom?

Denise said...

The children won't have to wait and read about their Mom, they live with this monster every day (or the rare days she is there).

And they can read plenty of hurtful things in the book she wrote "for them".

If I weren't already living in a town of 2,300 and loving it, I would proudly consider a place like Wernersville.

I guess nobody there knows how to help Kate. Hence she must smack them down and put them in their place.

You know, she COULD do herself a big favor by climbing out of the "ghetto" and moving. Just that might elevate the place to a
5-star community for everyone else.

I was in your cute town last year (May 2009) and had a chance to roll past The Manor to find not ONE pap outside the house (the same week she said they had 200 cars parked out front). Of course, when we saw the house and the road, it was easy to see that there was NO WAY you could fit 50 cars, let alone 200 on that narrow, winding road.

Anyway, your town was quaint and lovely. We didn't explore much, but we saw the ice cream place on the North side of the main drag and considered stopping. We *did* have the opportunity to stop at the local elementary school so we could stretch our legs and our child could play on the playground for a little while. I'm sure the Gosselin's school is nice, but what a waste with such a nice school so close by! All my husband and I could think was how much more grounding it would be for the kids to go to the neighborhood school and be just down the hill from their home.

Anyway, thanks for giving your insights. I can't believe anyone could say that about their home, especially with what we saw of it. Very nice area with really nice people!

Hi WG. I haven't yet posted any comments here, but I've been reading your posts after just recently discovering your blog. Thanks for the info.

I'm not surprised at all that Khate refers to the town with such disdain, as she does with so many things. Hey, she chose to live there, so if she doesn't like it she has nobody to blame but herself. Although in her big house, with all those acres, I'm sure she sees herself as so far above the little peons in her community. Uugh, she nauseates me.

Too bad the housing market sucks so bad because if it were good, I bet she would have sold the house and moved away. Looks like you guys are stuck with Queen Khate for a while. You have my deepest sympathies!

Unfortunately, Momsby, she talks this way in front of the kids, so I'm not saying anything they don't already know. And don't worry, I will not print everything I've read in this unpublished book. What I wrote tonight pales compared to some of the things I read. Of eight kids, at least a few of them are going to be truth-seekers, and if anything I would consider this kind of thing validating when growing up in a family where the important thing is not BE healthy and happy, but to APPEAR healthy and happy. Anyone who's grown up in a "looking good" family knows how crazy-making it is to have to look perfect all the time while the family is really rotting away from the inside out.

Unknown said...

Elitist, just because Werny isn't all matchy-matchy and perfect, like a brand new Barbie doll with new fake blonde hair and fake white teeth.

Great line!

Kate's accomplishment was having six kids at once. Really, that's it. Now, she claims she has to film them and lie about stillborn children because she has "eight children to feed." Yet, if she had never had the tups, she and Jon would still be working full time and living in obscurity in Wyomissing, probably in contact with their families.

I agree WG, maybe articles, blogs, etc. these kids stumble upon years from now, on the Internet, will be of the 'support' kind. Hopefully they'll find many people knew and were aware of the lies and deception and were doing what they could to change things for them. God, I hope so.

Anamonapea said...

#1: How do you know this is true? If Kate does not speak to anyone, who did she say this to? You did not hear this yourself, correct?

#2: How do you know how Kate speaks in front of the kids? Are you there? You assume and made this up,correct?

#3: I am white, grew up in a major US city neighborhood which has been called a ghetto by the suburbanites in my area (mostly white). The fact that YOU seem to think only minority people who use the words "y'all" "homies" and "hood" would be offended by the term "ghetto" is so incredibly racist I cannot even believe you printed that.

You are nothing but a stupid, neighborHOOD gossip. Nothing more, nothing less.

Lauren said...

I'm shocked about some things and not so much by others.

Ghettoville? Wow. Berks County looks serene and beautiful compared to other places in the country. So why did Kate buy her home there? Was it part of making Kate more marketable like a Martha Stewart for moms and so TLC chose the house?

The neighbors who brought the cookies. Wow! I have heard similar stories about Kate and how she mistreated the E-Town neighbors. So sad. No wonder she thinks she needs a bodyguard.

Wow and the comments about the Asians. I just don't have words. But it shows me that Kate is simply despicable. No wonder she didn't get along with Jon's family when they were married.

Thank you for posting the information about Kate's behaviors from a home town perspective. I wonder if the media will be contacting you soon for the TRUTH & NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH? Your info will blow the top off this fiasco.

I see Balloon Boy written all over this grifter drama!

WG - I believe that you are serving a very valuable purpose in blogging about the "real" Kate. Increasing the exposure of the truth in the sunshine is healthy. Oh, FYI, Momsy + Anamonapea are from the flog & have duplicitous motives, IMO.

I'm sure it must be just great for those little Asian kids to watch their mother exploit other Asian people! I'm also sure that state labour laws don't allow domestic helpers to work 24/7.

There are loads of things online that are harmful to ALL children. It is a parent's job to strictly monitor their kids internet use, and to teach them to be cautious online for when they are older. Certainly, choose to post or not post your friend's info based on your own values, but as I see it, as long as you are not revealing personal info about the kids, everything else is fair game.

Ellena said...

I am new to your blog, but find it extremely intelligent and witty! Please don't hold things in because some naysayers are judging you. The thing is, you are not saying anything wrong, there's nothing wrong in the truth! Believe me, those little ones are not going to grow up and have to seek the truth in these little blogs- they know much more ills than any of us can imagine!
Keep up the good work!

It's interesting how the person accusing WG of being racist had to preface her whole comment with "I'm white".

Anyway, thank you for sharing WG. I have to say that I agree with you and others who say this blog may be validating to the kiddos when they go searching for the truth when they're older. They already KNOW what their mother is like. It may be hurtful for them to see some things written about her but it may also validate their hurt knowing others could see through their own mother's lies.
(just my 2 cents coming from a home where appearance was EVERYTHING)

Thank you for sharing Werny Gal.

On one hand I am surprised, and on the other I'm not. Kate does comes across as a snob; the first sign was when she will not shop at Walmart but will shop at Target.

Oh, and please tell your friend that I will be buying his book once it is published. I bet this is one book that will be on the New York Bestsellers List - for months!

Mocha said...

One thing I don't get about this post. What is racist? The comments about Asians are nice. What's wrong with thinking her salon ladies don't gossip? Not gossiping is a good thing! Lol, not that we would ever refrain, lol.

If anything, I think the evidence strongly favors the position that Kate LIKES Asians. She doesn't think less of them, but is attracted to them. She once remarked that she wished she shared her children's heritage.

I know that Jon was proud of the Asian nanny they hired in January last year. He gave a speech at a local college to an Asian group (very nice, funny talk) all by himself. I think I saw it on YouTube? Since the topic was his Asian heritage, the nanny's heritage came up too. He said it was nice for the children to have a nanny with a similar background. I don't think she is Korean. If Kate says she does hair and nails well for the girls, that is a compliment, not a putdown. Why is any of that racist?

laurajean said...

It's racist because the comments she is making are based on stereotypes. Mocha, no matter how you try to slice and dice it I just don't believe there is ANY good in KG at all.

my9cats said...

WG,
I'm a little confused. The neighbors brought "freshly baked goods to Casa Gosselin when they first moved in, and were screamed at by Kate to get off her property and not tell anyone where she lived, or she would sue them.

The comment struck me as not only racist but elitist."

There was no mention of race or ethneticity (sp?) Elitist? Big time. But where is there mention of the neighbors race? Just wondering as it came before the Asian nanny/nail people part.

Mocha said...

laurajean,
I believe there is good in Kate Gosselin. I can't access the same level of hate I see for her. This isn't a blog for hating on Kate.

What Asian stereotype is portrayed here?

I don't see it.

I am really hoping WG answers. Sometimes, when I ask a question, and WG will tell you I have a lot of questions, lol, I am lectured at by some new poster who knows everything. Can we not agree that "There is no good in Kate Gosselin" is unrealistic and extreme? Come on now. This is Small Town Gosselins, not "Konspiracies R Us".

*Sugar&Spice* said...

With the poster who said its a shame that these dirty stories get posted every were and people talk about the gosselins dirty laundry all the time.

Well they all signed up to do a reality show. Pretty much just came out and exposed all their dirty laundry for everyone to see. Plus since the gosselin camp cant be quite about their person life "Kate" mostly. Their to blame of their coexistence of life.

The more the gosselin camp talks about their life. The more others talk about it. Until the day people stop talking about them. Will be the day you don't hear anything from them again.

Dealing with the children reading this info. Well they are going to learn some day. Unless you keep the children locked up for the rest of their lives. They are going to find out everything in 10 years or less. The many problem with this. Is that who are the children going to convey to? Who is going to help them through this ordeal? Who is going to admit that they did wrong putting their life in the spotlight. ( they don't need another book exposing the last 10 years of their lives again)

So Kate calls her 1. whatever kids house town ghettoville. Nice Kate really. Did you forget were you came from? That just screams out someone with new money and no morals to speak of.

Just like many who have became instant rich in a few years. The gosselin family will never be able to hold on to what they made. Unless many things changed in their lives.

Mocha said...

"Ghettoville" is a nasty term for anyone's town, especially a lovely place like Wernersville.

Regarding objections to this post. I am seeing it from both sides. It isn't so much that the kids don't already know this stuff. Googling it won't give them new information.

However, they will learn just how much pleasure others derived from gossiping about their mother's mistakes. That may hurt.

For example, a child's mom drinks and is seen publicly drunk. That's embarrassing. The child tries to cover it up and hopes no one notices. Then, she overhears other kids talking, laughing at, and mocking her mother when they don't kow she is there. It hurts all over again.

That's what we may be doing here. I feel ashamed. I don't even see the racism, so I don't think "Kate hires Asians" is "dirt". I sure wish WG would get home from church to explain that one!

Now I am off to church. Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner. Does anyone else feel bad about this?

MickeyMcKean said...

Generally speaking, in California anyway, most nail salons are owned and run by Vietnamese people.

As for whether or not they will talk, a lot that have done my mani/peds don't speak English all that well. Also they may be afraid of deportation - and if this is the case, I can see Kate using this as leverage to keep their mouths shut.

JMO.

laurajean said...

I don't "hate" KG, I just see no good in her, zero, zip, zilch, and I pity her children.

MickeyMcKean said...

Mocha,

People talk. Always have, always will. That is never going to change. Ever.

Where I would also love to protect the 8 children from the truth, fact is they see it first hand. In fact, they know what Kate tells them in the car after she has just been approached by a fan who asked her for an autograph.

What I find disturbing is that Kate's attitude about other people. Even on DWTS it was reported that she told Tony Dovolani that people only know him now because he got her as a partner (guess Tony could not do so on his own by being on DWTS for the previous 9 seasons, eh?).

Do I feel guilty about reading any blog? NO. It just compels me to try to help the Gosselin children more so and when the new show Kate +8 hits the air I will also once again be writing letters to the sponsors about exploiting children.

Now I will get ready to go to church but not because I'm feeling as if I have to, no, it is because I want to.

Looks like some sharks have discovered this site---TYPICAL. They are either followers of Baby Mama or TLC (I know from fact that large corporations employ folks to follow blogs, etc. on the internet and make comments---this is not rumor!! My husband told me his company does it).

I hope your friend writes a book and the sooner the better. And I hope it's not true Jon caved and will let the kids be filmed, but I have doubts. Terrible.

Werny Gal said...

As usual when I open the comments we start getting personal attacks. It seems like people who defend Kate unconditionally troll the Internet looking for people to attack, rather than just sticking with places that fit for them. I guess they just like arguing and telling others what they should do.

Mocha, I'll go back and clarify in my entry, because when I said "that comment strikes me as both elitist and racist" I meant the word Ghettoville. So I'll go back and fix that, thanks.

Racism involves stereotyping a group of people based on their ethnicity, heritage, or other quality. It's prejudice based on something they can't help - the way they were born. That prejudice can come in the form of a compliment, "All Asians do nice nails," or an insult (we've all heard them so I don't need to provide an example.)

About the child labor laws, I also thought it was strange that the article was posted at 1 AM PST Saturday morning, but there's more online to support that and I'll post it now. I'm going to contact Rep Murt Monday and see if he can enlighten us as to whether or not the child abuse clearances have been secured.

Pa. Approves New Kate Gosselin Show
Pennsylvania labor officials have approved Kate Gosselin's new TV show with her children to be filmed outside Reading, Pa.

A state official told TMZ on Saturday that all the labor permits had been approved for "Kate Plus 8," the summer spin-off series from "Jon & Kate Plus 8" featuring Kate Gosselin and her eight children.

Kate Gosselin will be required to withhold part of the gross pay for the series in a trust fund for the children.

On April 14, the state said it found that filming was done on "Jon & Kate Plus 8" without proper permits, but no legal action would be taken against the show’s producers as long as they got permits for future filming.

Also, going forward, 15 percent of the gross earnings must be put into a trust for the children.

A filming permit was not either submitted or approved for "Twist Of Kate," a second TLC show set for Kate Gosselin.

That show features Kate Gosselin interacting with fans

Anamonapea -

I think we've all seen ample evidence of how Kate speaks around her kids. She never held back when her life was being filmed for 5 seeasons.

Why do people so conveniently forget that there is plenty of permanent footage of Kate's true personality?

As far as the Gosselin children reading negative things about their mother, in years to come. They will one day see all of this through adult eyes and ask Kate "Why didn't you remove yourself from this to spare us the humiliation?"
Kate can control this. She chooses to chase the limelight and her children are paying the price.

Mocha does make a good point about SOME of the things that are posted all over the 'net - from both the pro-Gosselin camp and the pro-children camp. Some of it is truly horrendous and I shudder to think that the children will read some of it someday.

Most of us keep that in mind when we post; some do not. All we can do is call them out when we read it. We can't give them good sense, but perhaps we can make them stop and think for a second.

Sometimes I truly despair that any change can be made for these children. Mr. Murt has given me hope...but we all know how forcefully money talks when it comes to these kids.

Google won't let me sign in for some reason. I am Cherier1.

Hello WG,
Thanks for responding to my concern's. I like Mocha & Anamonapea did have some questions about this post. I read that some of you poster's think I have duplicitous motives, perhap's that is how some may view it. I've only recently started blogging, (much to my husband's dismay, it is mostly about the Gosselin's) & here are my reason's. 2 years ago I accidently stumbled upon a site that said terrible things about the entire Gosselin family. I was horrified, about the things written about the children in particular. I left & found 2 nicer sites, one that had the Monkey Munch recipe I was looking for. I was very sad that one day the G children would read those malicious cruel words written by adults. Months ago my daughter & her friend wanted to read up on the Gosselin's on a TLC site. Alway's looking for way's to encourage my child to read, I jumped at it. Thankfully, I pre read were she was about to read...you can imagine my dismay at what I found. J&K+8 was a family show, many children are still fan's it's seem's to me like there are no family friendly places to read anymore. Then, I had a thought, if my child was almost exposed to that garbage what are the Gosselin children reading? Yes, it is the parent's responsibility to moniter kid's access to the net. I do, but not every home does. Computer's are very much a part of every school childs life, & if a child seeks info they will find a way to get it. Imagine one of the Gosselin children google's Gosselin, Wernersville, neighbour & your site is # 4 under GWOP. I have a very strong belief that at least one of those kid's or their friends have the ability to google, from a computer, a DS or a phone. I'll be honest I think many of the K & J stories probably have some truth to them. I post at many different sites, and often agree or can respect poster's that have a different opinion. I just don't like the malicious, hateful stuff that those children can read today, before they become truth seeking adults. So my duplicitous motive is, I post as many positive things about the Gosselin's as I can, and I try not to write anything I would be ashamed my family, friend's or neighbours might read. I was very happy to find a some what Jon friendly site, and a place where the children are not discussed in a negative manner.
